Sustainable Seasons

Our activities throughout the year use the different seasons to help the community in Clevedon live more sustainably and in harmony with nature. These are some ideas that  guide what we do.

Summer

Summertime offers ample opportunities to reduce your carbon footprint and encourage nature through mindful choices and activities:

• Conserve Water: With the hotter weather, water conservation becomes crucial. Use a watering can instead of a hose and water your garden during the early morning or late evening to minimize evaporation.

• Resist mowing your lawn until the end of summer.  You will encourage butterflies and other insects.

• Support Local Farmers: Visit farmers' markets and purchase locally grown produce. This reduces the carbon footprint associated with transporting food over long distances.

• Reduce Energy Consumption: Utilize natural ventilation by opening windows and using fans instead of air conditioning. Close the curtains or blinds to create shade inside. If you must use AC, set it to a higher temperature to save energy.

• Choose Eco-friendly Travel: When planning vacations, consider eco-tourism options, such as camping or visiting nature reserves, which have a lower environmental impact. Try not to fly to your destination.

By making small, mindful changes throughout the year, we can collectively make a significant impact on our environment. Each season presents unique opportunities to embrace sustainable living, support nature, and reduce our carbon footprints. Let's pledge to make every season a step towards a greener, healthier planet.
